"Basements" is Mellowscape's debut album, released August 21st, 2021. Recorded, edited, and produced at home in their very own basement, Mellowscape offer a completely DIY, raw experience.

Established in 2017, Mellowscape spent their remaining college days writing and practicing music in their basement. Limited to the moldy confines of a concrete box, the story starts with songs such as "Screaming Obscenities," "Don't Know if it's Right," and "Steppin' on a Worm." The band continued to write what they could only describe as indie alt rock, with some funk and punk thrown in there for good measure.

Over the next two years, Mellowscape would venture out of their basement only to perform in... other basements!  The band frequented college parties, playing originals and covers to drunk college kids who didn't know who they were. The basement party scene is fittingly depicted on the front cover of the debut album, complete with party-goers and a single strand of festive lights illuminating an otherwise grimy concrete cave. Eventually the guys moved on the venues and festivals, but fondly remembered the thrilling and exciting basement scene.

In late 2019 the band felt they were finally ready to record something a little more serious than live demos (which were also filmed in their basement, of course). After reflecting on all the original material written over two years, the band settled on the Basements concept: an homage to the formative years of the band. "Basements" is a basement-made, DIY collection of all the songs written in a basement and performed in basements. The songs depict college love, isolation, and even betrayal, all topics experienced by your average 22-year-old punk.
